Our Next Literary Adventure

Furious Readers, forgive me if all of my posts are waxing nostalgic as we enter our ten year anniversary in a few months. Preparing for the launch of our Sequential Underground collaboration with a new monthly subscription box has me thinking about the early days when we were working through the night to put together our first title, the first volume of The MOTHER Principle. Getting ready for a launch is truly a labor of love and our next venture is no exception.

With that in mind, I am so pleased to announce that we settled on a theme for our very subscription box:

Who doesn’t love dragons? Or magic? Or folklore and mythology? All of these are a really fun way to begin our new project, but, as always, there is more to the story.

My literary adventure began with a library copy of Book of Enchantments by Patricia C. Wrede. From there, I devoured the Enchanted Forest Chronicles which all featured dragons. As a young teenager, I had no idea that there was a world of magic and mystery within the pages of books - in this case, quite literally. As I grew older, the image of the dragon’s library - a prominent place in Wrede’s books - stayed with me. A dragon’s library was sure to hold the real treasures - stories from long ago, books with the answers to change your future, and (another nod to Wrede), the best recipe for cherries jubilee. As readers, aren’t we all book dragons with our horde of books on our TBR and our reading apps? Don’t we growl and hiss when someone interrupts our reading? Oh, is that just me? Never mind.

When we were planning out the subscription boxes with the SQ team, we knew the first box had to mean something. It was our first real endeavor to bring the two companies together and the pocket-sized subscription box was inspired by our incredible One ‘n Done series

As National Geographic notes, “Medieval mapmakers supposedly inscribed the phrase ‘Here Be Dragons’ on maps showing unknown regions of the world.” The idea that something extraordinary lurked outside one’s comfort zone is an interesting concept to a group of readers. Since then the expression has been used by many readers and writers to invoke the mystic over the mundane. It’s something new and exciting - filled with possibilities for adventure. And that, Furious Readers, is what we hope to accomplish with our subscription box launch and the rest of our plans for our ten year anniversary.

If you wish to get on our VIP mailing list for the Sequential Underground subscription box, there’s still time to do so before the launch. You can find all the information, including frequently asked questions, here. We will send over updates, sneak peeks, and behind the scenes before we go live on our other channels.

What’s waiting for us in this uncharted territory? What treasures will we unearth in this new literary adventure? Time will tell, but we are really, really excited to bring you a new way to experience reading. Onward, literary explorers!
